So who else here is just as pissed off as I am that Penelope turned out to be evil? It was clear from the get-go that she would be the Black Knight, but I was hoping she was being mind controlled by Le Paradox. After it was apparent she wasn't being controlled I was severely disappointed. Now I simply want Sly 5 to see what they do with her after that cliff hanger ending where she escapes from jail and sends Bentley postcards.

Oh, you can GUARANTEE I was pissed. SO much potential, and was simply reduced to a character flaw for Bentley. It was, suffice to say, lacking for me.

I agree, slyfan. If she simply returns to the gang in 5 then Bentley's resolve at the end of Of Mice and Mechs will be for nothing.

Once I saw the black night and the technology my first thought was Penelope, I didn't want to believe it, but once you start following her through the rafters I knew it was her, I also hoped she was being mind controlled in some way, and at first I was okay when it appeared that she was doing what she did for Bentley, but when it became apparent that it was just for money, I dunno, it just didn't strike me as Penelope from what we know of her in Sly 3. Still though, I'm excited for the next game, if there is one, just with what happened in the credits.

I wasn't at all surprised. I was suspicious about her and Bentley's relationship from the beginning. Two very smart people in a relationship? Something's bound to happen. I didn't really care for her as a character, so I won't really care what happens to her.

It was awful how Penelope ended up being something completely not expected to be. Though if you ask me, it was very necessarily for this to happen-- the fact that Bentley had a lot coming to him, this kind of gave him way better character development and a way better boost in personality. I feel awful for him but oddly enough it was for the best!

I feel awful for him but oddly enough it was for the best! I feel she didn't really boost him in development though. Bentley honestly really only had one big boost of confidence to take her down. Then he seemed to just become normal again, like nothing happened. But I can see where you're coming from. At least we can agree this was completely stupid on how she reversed her role so dramatically.

As obvious as it was, I was really annoyed when Penelope turned out to be the Black Knight. But I was more annoyed when Bentley said he was getting postcards!! This girl steals his tech, breaks his heart, then keeps reminding him of it by sending postcards? What the heck, Penelope!?

I think it wouldn't have been as much of a problem if there was a more reasonable explanation as to why she sided with Le Paradox. There was no real reason for her to be bad, that was just poor writing. The only purpose she serves in this game is being a character flaw for Bentley, as thechaoticcooper said. I didn't really like how they handled the "development" for the characters except Carmelita.

Then he seemed to just become normal again, like nothing happened. But I can see where you're coming from. At least we can agree this was completely stupid on how she reversed her role so dramatically. Let's put it this way: at the very end of the episode, they explain how he overcame a certain 'inner demon'-- that being him trying to actually fight his past and overcome the really crappy trips he's been having. In a way Bentley got a big boost from all of this, making him a 'better person'. [Disregarding all of that] I wouldn't be too quick to antagonize Penelope so fast, she did have good intentions at the end, whither that be fake or not is up for grabs, but it seemed not for ill will but to make some experience out of it. Though it was for money... eh...

I was EXTREMELY enraged when it seems that she had NO REASON to turn evil. this was really the only part where I feel the writing suffered. Bentley always seemed smarter to me, especially the way he sometimes talked to Penelope as if she were younger than him (which I believe she was the youngest of the group, but it's hard to tell since we don't know the actual ages of the characters), so I don't think it would have been too much of a jump to have her leave because she feels like she isn't appreciated by the others as much as Bentley is. THAT I would have bought because she didn't really have much to do in Sly 3 in terms of showing off her smarts, it was always Bentley. Hell, I would have bought it if her reasoning was blackmail! Overall, I think all of us were pretty mad at the way this was handled. I just don't get WHY they did it? If it's going to be someone from Bentley's past, why not Jean Bison or the Contessa? I noticed Bentley change during Sly 2 after getting his friends back, but I noticed nothing here.
